Hi Folks,
I wanted the camera to zoom in a bit more at the beginning too, but all in
all, I loved this show and thought the guys did super.
I was called out of bed early this morning by a phone call from a fellow
named Mike who lives in the Mohave desert and who rides bulls for a living.
Mike has two horses and rides a lot, and he wanted - desperately - to know
if he could take the shoes off his horses, and if so, how does he start. He
was so anxious for information that I had to keep reining him in. We talked
transition, expenses and the whole process... You could tell he'd spent
hours online looking for secrets to barefoot, and decided to try calling me.
We talked about an hour and his enthusiasm kept bringing tears to my eyes.
Why did he call? He saw Ramey on the Clinton Anderson Show. He had no idea
that just any horse could go barefoot, and couldn't contain his
impatience...
Now, this guy Mike makes very little money bull riding, not enough to be
able to afford to take a few days off and come up to Pete's February Clinic
("unless there's a Rodeo up there that week - I could swing it then!") so I
gave him a new dream. Buy Pete's book, get on this list, read Pete's
articles and get his horses barefoot, learn to be a great barefoot farrier,
then talk rodeo folks into taking the shoes off of all of those Rodeo
horses. This kid Mike can definitely talk! If a Bull Rider who lives in the
middle of the Mohave can't talk the shoes off of rodeo horses, nobody can.
He'll be posting, soon. I told him about this list. Great guy.

We need to remember that these guys - Clinton and Pete - are NOT TV
Stars!!! We all want to see everything Pete knows pour out into our living
rooms from our TVs - we feel desperate to learn more, to gain Pete's
experience. But remember - Pete isn't a TV star! He's a guy. A farrier.
Normal, down to earth.
Pete is a simple Hillbilly (his words) and Clinton is a Cowboy in a clean
shirt with great business sense. Clinton couldn't shut up because he's still
amazed that barefoot really works. We need to celebrate his enthusiasm; this
type of conviction helps win over folks who haven't bought into barefoot
yet.
Pete's biggest fear is that he'll be cast as some sort of super hero. He
hates that! Think of him as a friend or acquaintance, as someone who has an
awful lot on the ball but who isn't perfect. Pete loves his mistakes, learns
from them, grows through them... Let him be human. He's just Pete, a super
sweet, well intentioned guy who - together with Ivy and the kids - is
putting everything on the line to help us help our horses. Know what they
want for Christmas? A few weeks at home, time to relax in the back yard.
Please don't expect him to be polished and shrink-wrapped like
Parelli. If
we do that to him he'll have to shut us out... He can't go there, and Ivy
would clobber him if he tried. Pete's - very honestly - one of us. Hold him
to the same standards that you hold Walt, Claire, Odette or any of our other
buds who have information, skills and experiences that we cherish.
I don't want Pete to ever get great at this TV stuff, even though I'd love
to have him use this venue for training... Even then, I'd rather have him be
a talented farrier who forgets to look at the camera, fidgets and whose
sincere enthusiasm makes the folks in his clinics split at the seams with
laughter.
Let him be Pete. Make it a Christmas present to him, okay? Let him be one of
us.
Later, Linda
