Voor wie lid is van facebook. Een schitterende fotoserie over een trektocht in de Rocky mountains... onbeslagen pak- men- en rijpaarden op een keiharde en stenige ondergrond, geweldig om te zien!

In 2012 we went on a 5 day pack trip from Lake Minnewanka (outside of Banff, Alberta - Rocky Mountains) to Lake Louise over 100 K (60 miles) and through three passes - Bager pass, Pulsetalla pass, and Boulder pass. There were four people and eight horses (luxury pack trip - one pack horse/person ) Two were shod with steel and six were barefoot. The barefoot horses had fantastic traction, with their large frogs, over the rock, and through the rivers compared to the shod which were slipping on the terrain in the third photo. The grazing was fantastic that year and horses got fitter and fitter and feet got stronger and stronger every day. We moved camp every day and also got lost when we hit a closed trail (Baker Creek) so we ended up putting on a few more miles than expected. On the last day of the trip we traveled through Boulder pass to Lake Louise and traveled down the gravel road (Whitehorn Road) around the ski hill. The horses comfortably walked out down the road to the trailer. I knew we could have turned around and spent the rest of the summer in the mountains. The trip was a little more challenging that we thought it would be, but we had an amazing 5 days. Our friends who didn't think it was possible to be barefoot in the mountains are believers now and are barefoot themselves. Two weeks later we were back in the mountains with six barefoot horses up to Mount Romulus - Kananaskis for four days with a team and wagon and four riding horses. We camped at Romulus and went up to Tombstone Lakes for a day trip. Four of the horses were from the pack trip. They were very fit and their feet were very conditioned. All the horses were very comfortable on the rocky terrains.

Wil.

Hier nog zo'n mooie ervaring, een bijzondere cursus in het bepakken van pakpaarden met pak zadel :-) IK ken het verhaal uit eerste hand ;-)
