p-Menthane-3,8-diol, also known as para-menthane-3,8-diol and PMD, is an active ingredient used in insect repellents. It smells similar to menthol and acts as a coolant[1]. PMD is found in the essential oil within leaves of the Eucalyptus citriodora tree.

Een olie uit Eucalyptus-boom bladeren (de "citroen Eucalyptus").
Ik vraag me af of dit middel niet juist ook voor paarden heel geschikt zou zijn (met name in landen waar gevaar is van het West Nile Virus, maar ook hier in NL en Belgie)?

Op http://www.bioone.org/doi/abs/10.2987/8756-971X%282006%2922%5B507%3APARBMR%5D2.0.CO%3B2 staan referenties naar onderzoeken mbt de werkzame stof.

De Silverlinde spray die ik voor Fálki gebruik tijdens buitenritten werkt m.i. goed, maar na ongeveer 1 uur neemt de werking al af en na circa 2 -3 uur zie ik geen werking meer. Hoe meer hij zweet, des te sneller werkt het niet meer, is mijn indruk.
