I am so excited to add successful endurance rider and clicker trainer Libby

We just returned from the challenging Vermont 100 mile Endurance
ride. Libby and her horse "Fly" had been running between 3rd and 6th
place out of the 50 or so riders all day.

This ride was exceptionally challenging because during the day a severe
thunder
storm came up with lightening and a wind cell that took down trees not only
on the trail but on the roads that the crews (me) used to get to the riders
at
designated holds. Suffice it for here to say that the support people did an
incredible job of getting the trail cleared ad hoc and keeping it free for
the
riders. This was a monumental task considering that the riders were out on
trail spread out between the winner who finish at 9:00PM and the turtle
that
would finish at just before 4:00AM the following morning. Just for
information
purposes the winner averaged 7.5 minutes per mile and the turtle averages
12.5 minutes per mile over the 100 mile course.

But, here's the real clicker story and how the relationship that Libby has
with
her horse Fly won the day for her.

Libby was running 7th when riders in 3rd thru 6th encountered a large tree
on the ground across the trail with no way around very close to the finish.
It was dark by then, close to 11:00PM. Libby got off her horse, climbed over
the tree to determine that the landing would be safe and asked her horse to
jump the tree to follow her.
Fly did so and together they finished the ride in 3rd place. So cool!

Also when I was talking to Libby I learned that her husband has a riding
accident and due to a surgery afterwards
became mostly blind (peripheral vision only) and paraplegic. Libby to this
day gets him up on a horse every day using
a hoist and turns him loose to ride. They're working on teaching a horse to
lie down for him so he can get on without
a hoist. When they do, he'll be able again complete at the rides with her.
At the moment the only thing holding
him back is needing the hoist to get on. Just amazing.
