naar aanleiding van een artikel van de Houston Police, bit en ijzerloos, welke ik op een 'paardenliefhebbers'forum plaatste, kreeg ik deze reactie:
My response is extreme because this practice is nothing but cruel having been a welfare officer for the BHS, I have never seen a case where regularly ridden horses are not at the very least foot sore barefoot, if you are riding regularly on sand, snow, soft grass, not on stones gravel or tarmac, you may have a horse with feet that will stand it. I get fed up hearing people go on about natural care, the very fact we have domesticated them is not natural, in the wild they would be grazing great distances and constantly on the move, on varying surfaces, thus keeping their feet short, however they are not carrying the extra weight of a rider, or compensating for the rider, they are not choosing their pace or ground, shoeing was brought in as most horses feet were falling apart or the animals were lame. Farriers do extensive training on the composition of the foot, which is why their knowledge is invaluable. Most people even if very competent at horse care at riding can not easily spot an unlevel horse, the art of trimming hooves to keep an animal level and sound requires skill. Over my 39 years of teaching every horse I have seen ridden barefoot is unlevel, most are lame on all four legs, which makes it hard to spot for some. If I had my way I would punish this practice with lifetime bans from keeping horses and prison sentences, in the Uk there have now been some prosecutions for this practice. Whilst running a dressage clinic in the Highlands we put 20 very good riders to the test under 1/2 could spot an unlevel horse. There is an old saying ' A horse is only as good as its feet', there was never a truer word. There are too many now who get into stupid fads that do far more damage than good, I have had ponies and horses since my birth, was riding off the leading rein at 4, despite all my qualifications, numerous courses and clinics, nothing has or will convince me this practice is anything other than cruel and I am sure in the not to distant future it will be banned on those grounds. Please also note that photo is taken in the snow. I would sooner see my horses put to sleep than go to a home where they were ridden barefoot. If you are to poor or to tight to get your horses feet properly trimmed/shod every 6 to 8 weeks by a professional farrier then frankly you should not have them.
toen werd ik even stil...
dit is een van de reacties die de dame schreef, en de meest erge. wat moet je hier nu opzeggen?
